Hello! My name is Karen Sobel. I am an Associate Professor and Teaching and Learning Librarian at the Auraria Library in Denver, Colorado. Our library serves three institutions of higher education: the University of Colorado Denver (CU Denver), Metropolitan State University of Denver, and the Community College of Denver. My job focuses on performing information literacy instruction for our campus’s Fine Arts and Architecture and Planning programs. I also perform collection development for the programs in CU Denver’s College of Architecture and Planning.
Research has played a large part in my work since I took my first position at CU Denver in 2008. At present, I am pursuing two major themes in my research. First, I am exploring the role that transfer of learning plays in information literacy instruction. Second, I am working on theoretical and practical strategies for supporting students’ social justice needs through public services librarianship. Please visit my research page to learn more.
